Grass
Tetany has been a problem already this year!
Grass
tetany is low blood magnesium. Advanced symptoms look like
milk fever. Early symptoms include excitement and twitching
of muscles. Cows may also grind their teeth, convulse, and
salivate a lot. Grass tetany is controlled with adequate
dietary magnesium. The minimum dietary recommendation is
0.25% magnesium but some nutritionists recommend 0.40%.
Other than at calving time, magnesium tetany is also seen
when cows graze lush, grass pasture and dietary magnesium
absorption is low. Ask Bennie, Lyle or Bryan about Purina's
